Use in Confluence
With Confluence version 9.0 and above, the legacy mode of adding rich filter gadgets to Confluence pages through the External Gadgets framework is no longer supported by Appfire. Please use the dedicated app Rich Filters::Reports and Charts for Confluence instead.
Rich filter gadgets can also be used in Confluence to display and get insights from issues in a linked Jira instance. There are two ways to achieve this, depending on the version of your Confluence instance:
Confluence version 9.0 and above: with a dedicated app: Rich Filters::Reports and Charts for Confluence
Confluence up to version 8.9: with the External Gadgets framework (deprecated)
1. Confluence 9.0 and above
If the version of your Confluence instance is 9.0 or higher, you can embed rich filter gadgets as macros in Confluence pages using the app Rich Filters::Reports and Charts for Confluence. This app is an extension of the main app Rich Filters for Jira Dashboards. The main app must be installed and licensed on your Jira instance for the extension to work in your Confluence instance. The main app supports the extension starting with version 2.4.0.
The Confluence and Jira instances must be linked through Application Links. You can define application links to several Jira instances and use them to configure rich filter gadgets.
The app Rich Filters::Reports and Charts for Confluence adds a new Confluence macro called Rich Filter Gadget. To add the macro to a page, click the + icon (Insert more content) in the page edit toolbar and select Other macros to open the macro browser. The macro is available in the Reporting category.
When the Rich Filter Gadget macro is selected, the following configuration dialog is displayed:
The left side of the dialog contains the following settings:
Setting | Description |
---|---|
Application link | If several application links to Jira instances are defined, choose the one you want this gadget to work with. |
Rich filter gadget | Choose the rich filter gadget you want to add to the page. All the gadgets supported by the main app are available. |
Gadget width | This optional setting allows you to define a width in pixels for your gadget. If it’s left empty, the gadget width will adapt to the page. |
Show border | Choose whether the gadget should be displayed with a border. |
The right side of the dialog allows you to configure the gadget itself. It contains two tabs: Configure and Preview. The configuration of the gadget works the same as in Jira. Once the gadget is configured, click the Preview button or change the tab to Preview to see the gadget results. From the Preview tab you can insert the macro into the page, or save it if you are editing an existing macro.
Once the Confluence page is in view mode, the gadget results are displayed and the gadgets behave similarly to gadgets displayed in a Jira dashboard. In particular, controller gadgets on a page will affect all other gadgets on the same page that use the same rich filter. To change the configuration of a gadget, you need to edit the page and then edit the corresponding macro.
Any existing rich filter gadgets added to Confluence pages with the External Gadgets framework will not be supported by the app and will not be automatically migrated. You will need to edit the pages and replace the gadgets with the macro provided by the app.
2. Confluence up to version 8.9
If the version of your Confluence instance is 8.9 or older, you can embed rich filter gadgets in Confluence pages using the External Gadgets framework provided by Atlassian. This framework allows you to register gadgets from Jira applications, so that the gadgets appear in the macro browser and people can add them to Confluence pages. When the page is in view mode, the gadget results are displayed as configured, and the gadgets behave similarly to gadgets displayed in a Jira dashboard. In particular, controller gadgets on a page will affect all other gadgets on the same page that use the same rich filter.
